The Joys of the Holiday Season: What Brings Me Happiness
The holidays are always a beautiful time of the year, and there are three things that top my list. As schools close, workplaces relax, and we turn our attention to what truly matters—family, reflection, and togetherness—it’s a reminder to cherish these moments. This is the time to spend with loved ones, friends, and significant others, reflecting on all of God's blessings in our lives.

Personally, this season brings mixed emotions for me. Having lost my father around this time, I always feel his absence. Yet, through the pain, I've learned just how important family time truly is. Watching people embrace the festive spirit, share hugs, and engage in face-to-face conversations—without the distractions of technology—is something that brings me joy. Breaking bread together, making eye contact, laughing for hours, and playing board games are irreplaceable experiences. The love shared during this time is invaluable and has countless health benefits, whether through a simple hug or sharing a meal.
Second, I love the mealtime experiences that come with the season. As someone who enjoys cooking, I’m always moved by the joy of preparing meals together. Watching couples or families come together to cook or share a meal is beautiful. This time of year seems to encourage everyone to slow down, savor food, and enjoy the company of loved ones. It's the little moments—whether it's playing checkers or cards with a grandparent, or watching children laugh and play—that highlight the beauty of family. While there is still so much work that we need to do collectively on choosing healthier foods, it's uplifting to see how meals unite us and support our emotional well-being.
Lastly, I love hearing beautiful Christmas songs and carols, filling the air with gratitude and joy. The melodies bring an added layer of warmth to the season, lifting our hearts and spirits. Oh, and did I mention, dancing in the living room to our favorite songs! lol. (Okay, maybe that’s a fourth thing I love!) Music has a profound way of nurturing our souls and connecting us to the love we share with family and friends.
So, happy holidays to you this Christmas. What brings you the greatest joy during this time of year? I’d love to read your comments and hear your thoughts.
