Healthy Living is Not a Diet

We live in an instant-gratifying society, where everything is expected to be quick and easy. This mindset is one reason why fast-food restaurants are so prevalent today. It’s hard to remember a time when they didn’t exist and even harder to imagine a world where admitting to frequenting them as a parent was unheard of.

Times have certainly changed, and with that change, shame has faded in many areas. However, one area that continues to dominate our culture is dieting—often seen as the “quick fix” for weight gain.

But here’s the truth: Healthy living is not a diet. Healthy living should be a lifestyle, a priority, and a commitment to long-term well-being. Obesity and health issues shouldn’t be addressed with temporary fixes or trendy diets; they require a focus on sustainable, long-term health.

As we approach the new year, many people are thinking about their New Year’s resolutions, with many focusing on changing their diets. But let me offer you a different perspective: instead of committing to a diet, commit to healthy living. When you set your resolutions for 2025, cross out “diet” and replace it with “healthy living is not a diet.”

As you step into the new year, I encourage you to renew your commitment to living a healthier lifestyle—not just for yourself, but also for your family. You are a powerful influence in creating a sustainable shift toward long-term health. Rather than getting caught up in the latest fad diet, focus on making choices that will nourish your body, mind, and spirit for the long haul.

Stay tuned for my next article, where I will share practical tips on how to kick off the new year with the right mindset and set yourself on the path to authentic, healthy living.

Until then, remember: healthy living is not a diet.
